Dynasty Restaurant, Renaissance Hotel KL, Now Pork Free, Dim Sum Promo 50% Off Till 29 August

I always know that when an invite comes from the Renaissance Hotel KL, the end result is inevitably a food coma of sorts.  Whilst I first mourned the passing of one of the last bastions of non halal dim sum places in local hotels, I was massively comforted by the outstanding quality of dim sums that were pork free, that we got to sample whenst they first turned over the new leaf, and went PORK FREE.  Memories of those glorious golden yam puffs that melt in the mouth, those plump siu mais...the list goes on.

Anyway, until 29th August, there's a 50% promo off dim sums during lunch time from Mondays to Fridays, which is a damn good deal if you ask me.  Or you can create your own 4 course menu at RM49.90 nett per person, for lunch OR dinner.

The ubiquitous egg tarts with flaky pastry...

The golden Yam Puffs, which initially were just for show, until I pleaded for us to have them, so to our table it came.

Fried Radish Cake....

Prawns with Cheese....

Chive dumplings in chilli oil....

Har Gaos...(Prawn dumplings)

Chicken Char siu baos

Scallop dumpings....

There are more than 30 types of dim sum to choose from, so knock yourself out.

For the set menu, there's a choice of 1 dish from each category of Soup, Fish and Poultry, Noodle, and Dessert, with a choice of add ons.

Stir Fried Grouper Fillet with Spring Onion & Ginger.... classic, simple and tasty.

Cantonese Wonton Noodle with honey glazed chicken and vegetable.  Unfortunately that day the noodles were a bit overcooked, I would have preferred it more al dente.  The kitchen has been notified.

Other choices available are:
SOUP
Assorted Seafood & Crabmeat broth
Sun dried seafood consomme
Shredded Duck Broth with Chives (We had this, but I can't find the photo, it was good)
Wonton Pouches in Consomme

FISH & POULTRY
Stir Fried Duck with Sesame Oil and Oyster Sauce
Grouper Fillet Sauteed With Portuguese Sauce
Stir Fried Grouper Fillet with Spring Onion & Ginger (the one we had)
Sauteed Chicken Strips with Dried Chilli

NOODLE
Stewed mee sua with fish dumpling (not a fan of mee sua, so definitely not my choice)
Seafood Ramen in superior stock
Pan fried Hong Kong egg noodle with enoki and chicken
Cantonese Wonton Noodle with honey glazed chicken & Veg (the one we had)

DESSERT
Chinese Pancake
Signature glutinous rice balls coated with sesame
Osmanthus Pudding
Herbal Jelly With Honey (we had this)

An Unforgettable Ex Beer-ience at the Carlsberg PROBABLY THE BEST BREWERY TOUR

When I received the media invitation to the Carlsberg's 170th Birthday "Probably the Best Brewery Tour", immediately flashes of nostalgia sprang to mind, back to the days when life was simpler, and you could watch beer ads in the cinema.  I remember flowing images of beer bubbles, interspersed with very varied themes, from grand pianists, to sands in the desert, and that jingle, come up to Carlsberg....  and also that narration, J C Jacobsen, master brewer.  So yes, I'm personally quite entrenched and well versed in some of that 170 year existence, and also having drank a lot of it, I was thrilled to be able to visit the brewery.

WHAT THE EVENT WAS...

Carlsberg Malaysia Managing Director Lars Lehman hosted members of the media on a VIP brewery tour ex-beer-ience – a preview of the Probably the Best Brewery Tour and also celebrated Carlsberg’s 170th global anniversary.

Upon entering the PROBABLY THE BEST BREWERY LOUNGE, we were greeted with the sight of all these various types of Carlsberg Products, ...I didn't know Kronenbourg was also a product of Carlsberg, or Corona for that matter.

A lovely welcome platter comprising Connors, Carlsberg Smooth Draught, Sommersby Cider and Kronenbourg 1664 was plonked in front of us as we sat down.... my friend swore that the drinks at the brewery tasted different from at a bar....

Shortly after all the guests arrived, the formalities began, with Carlsberg Malaysia Managing Director Lars Lehman

“The 170th anniversary of Carlsberg is a chance for us to pay tribute to the beer that is ‘always sharing’. It is all about the science that comes from beer knowledge and the art that brews high quality beers from natural ingredients. Through Probably the Best Brewery Tourcampaign, we celebrate Probably the Best Beer in the World, Carlsberg,” Lars Lehmann, Managing Director of Carlsberg Malaysia shared.

“We will reward 20 consumers to explore Carlsberg’s 170 years of beer discoveries in its homeland in Copenhagen and another 1,800 consumers to see, touch, smell and taste the quality natural ingredients of our brews through a VIP brewery tour ex-beer-ience in Shah Alam,” Lehmann added.

It's a fantastic campaign really.  There are various methods of winning that coveted 20 spaces ( I think 2 or 3 have already been won and presented) to Copenhagen, like Buy Snap and Win, (Posting picture of the receipt on instagram with the relevant hashtags), or drink bottles of Big Carlsberg Bottles and look out for the lucky bottle cap, but to summarise, here it is:

The video presentation was hilarious, it showed a guy conflicted as to who he should bring should he win, his girlfriend, mother or best friend...but shrugged it off because "where got so lucky one?"...

After that, the much anticipated brewery tour...which is up for winning by 1800 lucky winners.  Even includes a hotel stay and pick up from hotel etc... which we didn't get obviously.  We had to don on the special vests, ...I'm not sure what the purpose was, maybe for safety....and some people were very excited looking at the door gifts in anticipation.

Almost had beer flowing out of my head after the event....

Needless to say, I was thrilled to be touring the grounds.  We were chauffeur driven in luxury Alphards from building to building.

Tasting of the beer at various stages of the process, from the hops, (which tasted like some chinese herbal medicine) to the fermented product.  Totally fascinating.

And after the tour, it was party time, with glorious siu yoke and beer, and lots of other beer infused foods, followed by fun and games, like beer pong, darts etc.

Beer Pong Competition...

Darts away...

The ladies having a go at pulling their own pint....

What a great night it was.
